World Animal Day
World animal day was founded on October the 4th during the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, in Italy.
Some sites will no doubt be touting this as a celebration of our furry friends. I say it is a day to show your respect for all animals.
We love and care for our pets. But what about all the other animals? There are obviously the Fish, Crustaceans, Cows, Bulls, Sheep, Goats, Llamas, and all the other beasts that provide you and I the things we use in daily living.
Then we have all the wildlife that forms part of the ecology that defines our fragile planet.
In Australian alone, there are currently 86 species near extinction. The ABC recently reported that there were 763 critically endangered species across just 10 countries.*
Given that there are 195 countries in the World that is a frightening figure.
There are any number of organisations worldwide that are fighting to protect our wildlife, ecology and possibly, ultimately, our planet.
On this World Animal Day, you can get involved in the prevention of species extinction. Just search save our species.
