Novel Excerpt From The Widows Blade

The Widows Blade by Hamish McKenna

……………. She felt that way now, as they made their way back to the car after watching Toy Story 4 at the movies. Their children were talking to each other about the movie and laughing as they did so…………..

……………..It was only three months after their second son, who they named Matthew, was born that Kathleen’s husband was given a tour of duty in Afghanistan. The tour was to last twelve months. Kathleen was devastated. She was now to be on her own with the two boys for an entire year. She had been aware that this could happen but never in a million years thought that it actually would………….

………………She and the children all waved goodbye to him happy in the knowledge that this would be his last time away from home.

November Is Novel Writing Month

NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. This month is devoted to encouraging writers and authors to write a complete novel in a month.

You may think that to write a novel in a month would be either an impossible task or that the resulting work would be rubbish.

Not at all. The movement for the National Novel Writing Month is a strong one. There are continual prompts and challenges thrown down by the organisers in order that you will succeed, even if this is your first novel or novella.

Should you want to jump on board or perhaps be reminded next year, simply visit the NaNoWriMo site, and sign up. It is free.

And hey, if you do not get your novel finished, at least you have got it underway.

Today Is Authors Day

Authors Day will be celebrated by writers from many genres. An author is not simply someone who writes a book.

Being an author involved in any type of writing needs determination, resilience and a degree of intelligence.  an author may be a reporter for the newspaper. Just because the pieces they write may be no longer than this blog does not mean that a considerable amount of time and effort has not gone into it.

The author that writes a novel must do an amount of research to make the scenes and the characters in the book seem real to the reader.

Those that write reference books do an incredible amount of work compiling facts for insertion in their writings. So you can see, writing a book is something done with a great deal of thought and, yes, even emotion.

Emotional Intelligence Month

As Emotional Intelligence Month draws to a close, it is now the time to reflect on what has happened in the last few weeks.

Every moment of every day, people fall in love, are unfaithful, get married, get divorced, have a new addition to the family, lose a loved one, all major events that affect our lives and how we live them.

We need to be intelligent emotionally to make it through life’s daily trials and tribulations.

If you find that you struggle to keep control of your emotions or perhaps feel “lost” emotionally, there is help available. Other than talking to your GP who may refer you to a counselling service, the Emotional Intelligence Institute offers free advice and fact sheets in the form of an educational e-learning campus.

Spring Is Here!

Having spring arrive is a wonderful occasion. It is a time to celebrate.

It is in spring that Mother Nature truly comes to life and works wonders. We see new growth on our trees. There is an abundance of flowers. In Australia, it is Wildflower season. Travel through the mid-west to see vistas resplendent en-mass in full colour.

The Feast Of Beltane will arrive on November the first.  You can read about it here.

Your local pharmacy will be doing a booming trade on anti-histamine medication for all the hayfever sufferers.

If you haven’t done so yet, you should test your reticulation. For one thing that Spring brings to Australia is heat and dry weather. The Perth forecast for today is a top of 26°. Even here in the southwest, we are expecting 24°.

No complaints here though!
