A Snapshot Of History
This is the day when Live Aid hit the stage. It was, in 1985, the first major event to raise funds for famine stricken people.
The brainchild of Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, the concert was officially opened by Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
It was broadcast world wide simultaneously from stages in London, Philadelphia, and other countries including Australia, where the young INXS were one of the headline acts.
It was also on this day that the Ethiopian and Somalian war broke out. It lasted nine months with Somalia eventually retreating.
Harrison Ford was born on this day in 1942, think Indian Jones and Patriot Games.
Patrick Stewart was born in 1940 today, famous for Star Trek and X-Men.
And lastly, John F Kennedy was nominated for the Presidency of the USA on July 13th 1960
Festival of Cerridwin
The Festival of Cerridwin is a Celtic festival honouring Cerridwin.
Cerridwin was a goddess fevered in Celtic culture as a bringer of good harvests.
It is also said that she had a potion that gave the powers of creativity and knowledge. Her symbol is that of a pig, a symbol that often represents good fortune.
Sadly, today also marks the loss of the last pair of Great Auks. The were killed off the coast of Iceland by the request of a collector. This made them extinct.
That was in 1884. Hopefully we know better now.
