Buy Art

If you are in the market to buy art you need not look any further.

Just click on the “browse art” button and you can view all of my paintings for sale. There are paintings to buy suited to all budgets.

Some paintings include a free frame which could easily cost you upwards of $100 to get done elsewhere. I change the paintings that get a free frame from time to time, so if you like one, do not hesitate to buy a painting straight away.

If you feel the price is a bit too high for your budget, you can always make an offer to buy art.

Local Opportunities For Artists

As artists, we are always looking for outlets where we can show our art. One of these outlets that can provide multiple opportunities is our local council.

These opportunities are usually only open to artists that live within the council or shire boundaries. Opportunities that we can find include

  • exhibition opportunities
  • public art opportunities
  • studio space
  • grants
  • Artist in Residence programs
  • prizes and awards
  • art trails
  • artist Networks
  • involvement in community projects
  • professional and practice development workshops

Our councils need to provide these opportunities for artists as they are committed (or should be) to creating employment, bringing tourism, and promotion of festivals etc.

Some councils have rooms withing historic buildings that are available for rent if we want to put on our own art show. There are several arts and crafts fairs held each year that are supported and advertised by councils. Renting a space in the fair could be a way to display our artwork for sale economically.

If you are an artist that has an ABN, there are chances to tender for the contract to deliver artwork for a council event, celebration or to beautify the locale.

To get started, contact your local councils Art Coordinator or Cultural Development Officer.

Your Art Exhibition

If you plan on having an art exhibition, there are a few things to consider before jumping in at the deep end.

Artists selling art should consider the following points.

  1. Is the art gallery a reputable one and how long has it been in business
  2. What will the cost to you, the artist, be
  3. Consider the cost of getting your art to the art gallery
  4. What about transport costs and insurance, both theft and damage in transit
  5. Does the gallery have public liability insurance
  6. Does the gallery ask for you to waive your copyright
  7. Will the art gallery advertise and promote your art exhibition
  8. Is the art show to be all yours or a shared one
  9. Will the art exhibition advance your standing as an artist in the wider art community
  10. Does the art gallery have good access

While this list of items may appear daunting, do not be put off by it.

Take your time checking the preparations for the show and good luck

Fake Australian Art

There has been a recent influx of forged Aboriginal art in the Australian Art Markets.

The source is thought to have originated in Indonesia. The artworks for sale by Birubi Art bear the words aboriginal art, genuine and Australia but the Federal Court has found this to be in breach of our consumer laws as they were made overseas in Indonesia.

The art for sale includes boomerangs, message stones and didgeridoos, all with Aboriginal design art on them.

At the time of writing, the penalties that will be imposed on the wholesaler, Bilirubi Art Pty Ltd was not yet decided.

Source “National Indigenous Times.”

All the art for sale on this site is original art created by myself.

Buying Art

Tips For Buying Art

Buying art by a famous artist can be fraught with financial danger. When you are buying art, that is when you buy a painting, you do not want to get ripped off.

It is a sad fact of life that there are thousands of scams being operated daily by unscrupulous people. If you are looking at buying, for instance, a Pro Hart painting, from someone who no longer wants it, you need to be sure that it is genuine.

In Australia, there are artists who are painting in the Aboriginal style and selling art as genuine aboriginal art. This is illegal.

Be careful about where you buy art.

For instance, it is very unlikely that you will find a genuine Pro Hart or Jackson Pollock in a market stall. Equally, you are not going to find one in the classifieds art for sale section of a paper.

Ways to avoid being scammed when buying art.

If you are buying from someone who claims to be the artist, ask to see the art studio or at least a photo ID.

When buying art from a third party, ask to see the provenance. Provenance is a record of ownership of a work of art or an antique and is used as a guide to authenticity or quality.
