Today Is Global Beatles Day

Beatles Day is a celebration of the Fab Four. Four young Liverpuddlians who took the music world by storm with Love Me Do.

Everybody has a favourite Beatles song. It could be Eleanor Rigby, Strawberry Fields, Hard Days Night, Norwegian Wood, Revolution or Please Please Me. Then Hey Jude, Lady Madonna, Sargeant Pepper and countless more.

The Beatles started a revolution in the world of music. They played to packed houses worldwide, were the first group to be met at airports by hordes of screaming, adoring fans.

Others have come close, but they have never been surpassed.

Today also marks Custers last stand at the Battle Of The Little Big Horn.

George Michael was born on this day in 1963.

Also, on this day in 1947, the Diary Of Anne Frank was published. She was a Jewish girl who hid from the Nazi’s in World War Two.

Her diary chronicles how she survived in hiding for 25 months before the Gestapo found her.

That was over two years without ever being able to go outside and breathe fresh air. She died at age 15 in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

Today Is Fairy Day

Fairy Day Is Here!

Fairy Day is a day for celebrating an enchanted world of wonder.

Fairies in the garden. Little homes under toadstools. Magic Fairy Dust that can brighten the dullest of days.

If you are the parent of a young, possibly precocious lady, then today is the day to embrace your inner child and get your star tipped wand out.

Have some fun with your child and let your imagination run wild. You will feel all the better for it.

On more serious note

Today is also the anniversary of the day in 1982 when a British Airways flight ran into serious difficulty.

The Boeing 747 had all four engines fail at the same time. A total flame-out.

The plane had flown straight into a cloud of volcanic ash thrown up by Mount Galunggung near Indonesia.

One clear of the ash cloud, no doubt after scaring everyone on board, the pilot managed to get the engines re-started and the flight landed safely in Jakarta.

This was also the date when in 1901, Pablo Picasso opened his first ever exhibition in Paris.

Australian Artists Forum

Australian Art Forum

There is now an Australian Art Forum available for artists of all skill levels and styles.

I did a lot of searching and struggled to find an art forum that was specifically for Australian artists. So I have created one myself and added it to my website.

Artists working in all mediums are welcome to use the forum. I will be adding forum categories for artists working in glass, wood and ceramics too.

This Australian Art Forum is totally free to use. No catches. I hope to also add an area in the site in the near future where Australian artists can sell their work.

What Happened Tomorrow On June 23rd?

The Battle Of Bannockburn was fought on June 23rd 1314 when the Scots defeated the English at Bannockburn, regaining Scotland’s independence, and establishing Robert the Bruce as Robert Ist.

Also, more recently, the United Kingdom held “Brexit” where just over half the people voted the UK out of the European Union.

It was also on June 23rd 1912 when Alan Turing was born. As a cryptographer he went on to be instrumental in the efforts to break the Enigma Code in the Second World War.

June 23rd is also Public Service Day

We end to think of Public Service as the staff that work in offices in Centrelink and Medicare. Let’s also remember the hard work, that often puts them in danger, that our other Public Service industries do.

I am referring of course to Police, Fire Service, Ambulance, Bush Fire Brigade and the SES.

They serve us, the public, and are always there as soon as possible when we need them.

What Happened Tomorrow On June 22nd?

June 22nd is Chocolate Eclair Day. What a great excuse for heading to the coffee shop or bakery.

It was on June 22nd 1986 that a referee allowed a goal scored for Brazil by Diego Maradona against England during the quarter final of the world cup. The ball actually went into the net off Diego’s fist and the referee thought it went in off his head. It is referred to as The Hand Of God goal.

Both Cyndi Lauper (1953) and Meryl Streep (1949) were born on June 22nd.

Two great entertainers, Fred Astaire (1987) and Judy Garland (1969) both passed away on June 22nd

Tomorrow is also Take Your Dog To Work Day and Onion Ring Day

Today Is World Yoga Day

To name some:

  • Increased flexibility.
  • Increased muscle strength and tone.
  • Maintaining a balanced metabolism.
  • Protection from injury.
  • Weight reduction.
  • Cardio and circulatory health.
  • Improved athletic performance.
  • Improved respiration, energy and vitality.

Also today we have ALS/MND Day.

Show your support for those affected by this debilitating disease (Steven Hawking recently passed from it) by hosting a Drink Tea For MND event, wear a blue cornflower, or a free dress day with blue as the colour.

On This Day In 1963

It was on this day in 1963 that the Red Telephone was put in place. This was no ordinary telephone. It was the hotline between the USA and Russia. But it was a telephone by name only. The leaders of the two superpowers spoke by fax or teletype. They use email nowadays.

It was on this day in 1942 that Kazimierz Piechowski escaped from Auschwitz with and three others disguised as SS officers and in a stolen SS staff car. While a total of 144 escaped, 1.1 million people died in Auschwitz.

On This Day In 1975 Jun 20th

On this day in 1975, Steven Spielbergs blockbuster, Jaws, premiered. Often said to be one of the greatest films of all time it is hard to believe that we all were thrilled by the sharks realism!

It was also on this day in 1837 that Victoria became Queen of the United Kingdom. She went on to rule for 64 years.

Today Is Red Apple Day

Today Is Red Apple Day

Do You Know What Red Apple Day Is?

Bowel Cancer Australia was formed by a small team of specialists who were focused on a better health future not only for the patients they treated but for all Australians. With the support of a very generous patient donation in 2000, they teamed together to establish the charity now known as Bowel Cancer Australia, which stood as the only dedicated national charity aimed at raising awareness of and funding research into bowel cancer.

It is not, as you might be forgiven thinking, anything to do with a healthy crop of red apples. It is all about Bowel Cancer Australia.

The charity was initially formed by a team of specialists who wanted to provide a better outcome for their all Australians, not only cancer patients.

Why? Because bowel cancer could be contracted by any Australian. Bowel Cancer Australia has long been the only national charity that raises awareness of, and provides funding for the research into this cancer.

Think of cancer as a parasite that has got into an apple turning it bad. Early detection of the parasite is a must. So support Bowel Cancer Australia and if you receive a test kit, use it.

Red Apple Day is part of Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. If you have a general question about Red Apple Day you can contact the organisation here.
